Old Schoolhouse No. 6

sweater: old navy (on clearance for $5) / shirt: express / jeans: 7 for all mankind / shoes: crown vintage via DSW (these are also cool) / bag: t. j. maxx / sunglasses: ray-ban / necklace: j. crew / book: Vergil's Aeneid

I've had these shoes for almost a year now, and I've struggled to style them without making myself look shorter than I am. Finally, because these jeans are skinny but not too tight, I just rolled up the hem (cuffing them shortened the leg line and made me look disproportionate) to show some ankle - scandalous! I love this sweater, too. I got it for next-to-nothing on clearance at Old Navy, and the color is just fantastic. I'm looking forward to pairing it with white jeans later in the season.

Tips for shopping Old Navy: When I told Jacob about my recent Old Navy shopping trip, he responded, "I'm skeptical. Old Navy makes me nervous." I totally understand that reaction, but I have always been an Old Navy fan and I've figured out a few tricks to navigating the store. 1) Don't be too picky about hanger appeal. They have so many colors and patterns to choose from that it can be overwhelming at first, but don't panic! Grab anything that catches your attention because you just never know. 2) Do be picky about fit. The fit at Old Navy is pretty inconsistent, even within the same style. Try EVERYTHING on in the dressing room and inspect it closely. It won't be worth it to have things altered later, so make sure it fits right before you leave the store. 3) Keep the receipt. When you get your fun, new stuff home, try it on again with pieces you already own. Make sure it fits into your current wardrobe. If not, bring it back. No harm, no foul.

Now get out there and go shopping!

  1. Tis true that when one shops at the Old Navy, there can be no shame in the game.
